The best two-person tents we stock this spring

The best two-person tents we stock this spring

We pitch a lot of tents in the store when customers can't decide. Four two-person tents we stock earned a recommendation this spring.

Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2

Still the one. Three pounds with the footprint, easy pitch, enough room that two adults don't hate each other at 3 a.m. The new material holds up better than the last generation. Pricey, yes. Worth it for longer trips.

MSR Hubba Hubba NX

The Toyota Camry of backpacking tents. Reliable, well built, not trying to be anything it isn't. Heavier than the Copper Spur by half a pound but the fly drum-tightens, which is what you want in real weather. Our pick for early spring trips when the forecast is a coin flip.

NEMO Dagger OSMO 2P

New fabric this generation. It's noticeably drier on the inside after condensation-heavy nights. Good pockets, enough headroom for two, easy setup. The fly vents are better designed than competitors.

Kelty Late Start 2

The budget pick. Around $230 with a footprint, this is the tent we send people home with when their first backpacking trip is this summer and they're not sure if they'll keep going. A bit heavier than the others at just over 4 pounds, but honest construction, two doors, and a fly that actually seals out rain. Good starter tent that holds up for years.

What to skip

Anything sub-two-pound that's also sub-$400. The math doesn't work. Something is getting cut, usually the fabric durability or the zippers. You'll have it for one season.

Come by any Grivet store and we'll walk you through the differences. We pitch tents for customers all the time.
