Women's running shoes use a different last than men's: typically a narrower heel, slightly wider forefoot, and lower volume through the midfoot. That's why borrowing a half-size from your boyfriend's pair doesn't usually work. Hiking boots follow the same logic, with shorter shafts tuned for women's calf shapes. Rain shells and packs are built around shorter torso measurements and adjusted hip belts. None of this matters until it does, and then it really does.

Do you carry wide widths in women's shoes?

Yes. Brooks, New Balance, Hoka, and Altra offer wide (D) and extra-wide (2E) in select models. Narrow (2A) is harder to find but available in a few daily trainers. If you're unsure of your width, our staff can help by phone or online chat.

What's the difference between gender-specific and unisex shoes?

Gender-specific shoes use a women's-tuned last and (in many models) a slightly softer midsole density. Unisex shoes are built on the men's last and sized down. Both work for some people. We can talk through the difference if you're between sizes.

How do I pick a shoe online without trying it on?

Start with the type of running you do (daily miles, tempo, race day, trail). Filter by stack height and drop if you have a preference, otherwise default to a 6 to 10mm drop and medium stack for everyday miles. Read the product page for fit notes (toebox width, midfoot volume) and check the Q&A. If you're still unsure, message us with your current shoe and what's working or not working about it.

How do I know which brand fits my foot best?
