What to look for in men's outdoor gear

A daily trainer should feel right on the first lap of a fit treadmill, not "break in." If a shoe pinches in the store, it'll do worse on mile 8. Men's hiking boots vary a lot by foot volume. If you have a high arch and high instep, the difference between an Oboz and a Merrell can be the whole experience. How often should I replace running shoes?

Most daily trainers last 300 to 500 miles. Plates and high-mileage tempo shoes wear faster. Trail shoes are about lugs. When the outsole rounds off, traction goes. If you're not sure, the wear pattern on the outsole and a creased midsole are the clearest signs.

Do you carry wide widths in men's running shoes?

What's the right shoe for race day?
