The Grivet Take
The Endorphin Speed 5 is Saucony's current tempo-and-race trainer in the Speed lineup, broadly considered one of the best plated tempo trainers on the market. Same 36/28 stack and 8mm drop as the v4, same PWRRUN PB PEBA foam, but the nylon plate is refined and the outsole grips better. Best for tempo workouts, half-marathon and shorter racing, and runners who want full plate-assisted snap without committing to a carbon race shoe. Skip it for easy daily miles or marathon-pace cruise; the Speed 5 is dialed for pace, not protection.

Support

Stability shoes use geometry, rails, firmer foam, or frame designs to create a more guided feel. Motion control shoes are the maximum-support category and are rare in modern running.

How it fits
Fits true to size with a slightly tapered toe box and snug midfoot. Heel hold is good. Best for runners with normal-width feet; wide-footed runners should consider the Adidas Boston 13 or stick with the v4 if a slight fit difference matters. Available in Standard (B) only for women's.
How it feels
PWRRUN PB PEBA foam delivers peppy, responsive ride with quick energy return; the v5 is dialed for pace. The refined nylon winged plate provides snap through toe-off without locking out forefoot flex. SPEEDROLL forefoot rocker is pronounced. Updated outsole grips well on pavement, tracks, and damp roads. Ground feel is connected but cushioned.

Tech, translated
PWRRUN PB is Saucony's PEBA foam, the same blend used in the Endorphin Pro race line. In the Speed it's tuned for daily-trainer durability while keeping the race-foam bounce.
Refined nylon winged plate is the v5's structural change. Less aggressive than the carbon plate in the Pro 5, the nylon plate provides snap through toe-off without locking out forefoot flex. The wing geometry adds stability without weight.
SPEEDROLL technology is Saucony's term for the forefoot rocker geometry that, combined with the plate, rolls the foot through toe-off.
What changed from the previous version
Endorphin Speed 5 keeps the same 36/28 stack, 8mm drop, and PWRRUN PB PEBA foam as the v4. Refined nylon winged plate gives a slightly sharper, more confident feel; updated outsole grips better on pavement and damp roads. Slightly lighter overall. Speed 4 fans will recognize the shoe immediately; the v5 is an iteration, not a redesign.
Frequently asked
Does the Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 run true to size?
Yes, the Endorphin Speed 5 fits true to size for most runners. The toe box runs slightly tapered with normal vertical room; midfoot is normal volume; heel hold is good. Best for runners with normal-width feet. Available in Standard (B) only for women's; wider feet should consider the Adidas Boston 13.
What changed from the Saucony Endorphin Speed 4?
Same 36/28 stack, 8mm drop, and PWRRUN PB PEBA foam as the v4. The nylon winged plate has been refined for slightly sharper feel; the outsole has been updated for better grip on pavement and damp roads. Slightly lighter overall. v4 fans will recognize the shoe immediately — this is an iteration, not a redesign.
How does the Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 compare to the Endorphin Pro 5?
Both share PWRRUN PB foam and SPEEDROLL rocker; the difference is the plate. The Speed 5 has a refined nylon winged plate for tempo and shorter racing. The Pro 5 has a carbon S-Curve plate for full race-day propulsion. Choose the Speed for tempo workouts and half-marathon racing. Choose the Pro for marathon racing and dedicated race-day use.
Is the Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 firm or soft underfoot?
Balanced, with the plate and rocker doing more of the work than foam squish. PWRRUN PB foam is responsive and bouncy; the nylon plate adds structure; the SPEEDROLL forefoot rocker rolls the foot through toe-off. Best at tempo and race pace; less forgiving for easy long miles than a softer daily trainer.
Is the Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 good for treadmill running?
Yes for tempo and uptempo treadmill workouts. The updated outsole grips the belt well, the PEBA foam keeps efforts feeling fresh, and the plate-and-rocker geometry works smoothly with steady-state pace. For longer easy treadmill miles, a softer daily trainer would feel more forgiving.
