The Grivet Take
The Excursion TR15 is Saucony's budget non-waterproof trail runner, built for hikers, day hikers crossing into trail running, and weekend trail users who want trail-grade traction without the premium price of the Peregrine line. 24/16 stack with an 8mm drop, 10.2 oz / 289g at men's reference. Aggressive high-traction lugs handle mud and loose surfaces; PWRRUN cushioning delivers moderate, comfortable underfoot feel; breathable mesh upper keeps feet cool. Best for shorter trail runs, hiking-style off-road use, and customers who specifically need entry-tier trail capability under \$100. Skip it for fast trail running, ultra-distance efforts, or anyone wanting modern responsive foam; the Peregrine line is the right answer for performance-oriented trail use.

Support

Standard platform
How it fits
Fits true to size with a moderately rounded toe box. Breathable mesh upper with supportive overlays adds stability without feeling restrictive. Heel hold is solid for an entry-tier shoe. Standard (D) width only.
How it feels
Predictable, slightly firm cushion. PWRRUN foam provides a stable platform for daily off-road use without the energetic return of premium trail foams. The 8mm drop is approachable for runners coming from road shoes. Aggressive lugs deliver confident traction on dry trails and through mud; the rubber compound is not as sticky as premium trail rubbers, so wet rock takes more careful foot placement.

PWRRUN cushioning: Saucony's standard EVA-blend midsole foam, durable, comfortable, predictable. A step below PWRRUN+ (more energetic) and well below PWRRUN PB (race-day PEBA). Well-suited to entry-tier trail use.
Aggressive trail lugs: the outsole pattern handles climbing, descending, and lateral movement. Aggressive enough for moderately technical trails and mud; not as deep or sticky as premium trail rubber compounds like Vibram Megagrip on the Peregrine 16.
Breathable mesh upper: lighter and cooler than the GTX variant, better for warm-weather trail use, no waterproof protection.
