Women's Fleece

What to look for in women's fleece

Fleece is a workhorse layer. Lightweight grid fleeces like the Patagonia R1 are technical mid-layers built for high-output cold-weather use. Standard-weight fleeces are versatile across active and casual. Heavy fleeces like the Patagonia Better Sweater work as a standalone in mild cold. Look for thumb loops, zippered chest pockets, and a slim athletic cut if you'll layer it under a shell. For casual wear, prioritize hand feel and finish.

FAQ

What's a grid fleece?

Grid fleece (Polartec Power Grid, Power Air) has a textured inner surface that traps warmth while letting moisture out. Best for high-output cold-weather use.

Can I wear fleece in the rain?

Fleece breathes well but doesn't block wind or rain. Pair it with a wind shell or rain shell when conditions get rough.

How do I care for fleece?

Cold wash, line dry or low tumble. Skip fabric softener. Pilling is normal over time and doesn't affect performance.

Are fleece jackets warm enough for winter?

On their own, only down to about 40°F for active use. Layered under a shell or insulated jacket, they extend the range significantly.
